Inventory-Based Commissions

Shopventory tracks inventory. It's what we do. So we've come up with a clever, inventory-based solution to tracking commissions by creating Bundle Variants of Products.

Let's try an example

First off, let's start with a mattress set:
Product: Sealy Posturepedic

  • Variant: King
  • Variant: Queen

What we're going to do is create a new version of each Variant. So, let's say we have two salesmen. (Since the label will show on the receipt, you may not want to use names, so we'll just assign them letters A and B.)

We need two versions of each Variant for a total of 4 possibilities (2 Variants x 2 Employees). So in this case, we'll have:

Product: Sealy Posturepedic

  • Variant: Queen - A
  • Variant: Queen - B

Product: Sealy Posturepedic

  • Variant: King - A
  • Variant: King - B etc...

This way, Employee A should select only Variants marked with 'A' while Employee B will only select Variants marked 'B', and so on.

So we'll add 'A' to the existing (non-bundle) Variants:

Now, let's add the Bundle Variant!
We'll focus on the Queen Variant for this example. We already have one in inventory. For the 'B' Variant, we'll have to use Shopventory's Bundle Variant option. Watch closely:

We are creating a "Bundle" called Queen - B consisting of one Queen - A mattress Variant. This way, whether I sell Queen - A or a Queen - B, the exact same mattress will be deducted from inventory.

The sales reports will show which Variants were sold, but the inventory reports will show only the "base" Variants.

This way, I can search the Sales Report by "A" or "B" (probably want to add a few more characters) and see who sold what!

When it comes to bundles, the best way to learn is by doing.
